Neil Patrick Harris's nuanced performance adds to this appealing dog story, a children’s adaptation of Grogan’s MARLEY AND ME. Harris’s deadpan recital of Marley the Labrador retriever's havoc and Grogan's underlying affection for him are perfectly portrayed. Hearing the tender compassion in Harris's voice as Marley's health declines, one suspects that Harris, like Grogan, has a soft spot for canines. Harris even manages to subtly age his voice as the memoir moves from Grogan's first days with Marley through 13 years of living with this capricious pooch.
