BABE RUTH'S OWN BOOK OF BASEBALL
George Ruth
Read by Lenny Lyons

Babe Ruth isn't with us anymore, but listeners may forget that as Lenny Lyons delivers this book by the baseball great. Lyons gives the Babe's words a voice that is both gruff and cheerful. There’s a touch of boastfulness as Ruth describes life in the Baltimore streets. But it's gentle enough that Ruth's use of the word "chap" sounds in character and the admiration the author had for rivals comes through. Ruth mentions greats such as Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig, but he also talks about players few will remember. There's a lot of advice for young players, in both strategy and life outside the sport, and a few diverting chapters on topics like road trips and superstitions.
