As DS Alice Rice investigates the murder of a sheriff and his male lover, she becomes involved in a controversy over wind turbines. Soon she discovers that one of the affected landowners is the murdered sheriff. Although the setting is Edinburgh and surrounding countryside and narrator Hilary Neville is a Scot, she saves that infectious Scots burr for just a few characters. Others are defined by what they're feeling as well as who they are. Most memorable are the heated exchanges between the employees of the turbine company and the villagers who don't want their intrusion. Author Galbraith, who has a medical background, tends to get a bit sidetracked, but Neville keeps the story moving to a fiery conclusion.
