Detroit-born Patricia R. Floyd recently recorded Denise Nicholas's new book FRESHWATER ROAD, in which one of the characters lives in the neighborhood where she grew up. Drawing on the colorful characters of her own family and people she has known, Pat presents casts of characters that fully come alive to listeners. We celebrate her work in a mother-daughter memoir, FREEDOM IN THE FAMILY in this issue. Among the two dozen books she's recorded in the last four years, Pat told us that each has a draw: sometimes it's just "the beauty of the words" ( LET THE LION EAT STRAW ); the black female super-heroine ( THOSE WHO WALK IN DARKNESS ); or her personal emotional connection ( CAMILLA’S ROSES ). Balanced with her audiobook work, Pat has directed several plays at Stamford Theatre Works, where she'll also be appearing this winter in National Pastime.
