CAVALIERS AND ROUNDHEADS

The English Civil War (which also involved the Scots, Welsh and Irish) is presented in this well-written and detailed history. Steven Crossley's narration is technically flawless. His diction and pacing are perfect, and his scholarly sounding voice is easy to follow and understand. However, until Cromwell enters this story, the reading lacks energy--making the story hard to follow. After Cromwell enters the picture, the energy picks up, and the narration ends better than it begins (except for the overly long epilogue). M.T.F. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 99]
