This series chronicles fictional cross alliances during the Civil War. Nate Starbuck, son of the Reverend Elial Starbuck, one of New England's preeminent abolitionist ministers, befriends at Yale Theological Seminary Adam Faulconer, son of a scion of Virginian aristocracy. Adam's loyalties lie with the North, while Nate is believed to be a spy when he joins Washington Faulconer's regiment to fight with the South. David Case's British upper class accent and precise, clipped enunciation don't fit this subject matter. He makes Starbuck seem one-dimensional and none too bright, while rustics and rowdies are highly exaggerated. In addition, Case reads on exhalation until he runs out of breath and then continues on a bit so that some words are squeezed out and dropped. M.D.H.
