This is the second Anna Pigeon mystery set at the Natchez Trace National Park in Mississippi. The plot concerns a murder in a prominent family and Anna's ongoing problems with a subordinate who resents working for a woman. As is increasingly true in this series, the story emphasizes character development and emotional intro-spection and downplays action and descriptions of the park. Barbara Rosenblat is, as always, astonishingly able to take on all of the nuances of voice that the material requires. And her narration maintains the pace between conversations nicely. An excellent performance is marred only by audible breathing. R.E.K. (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 02]
