Stuart Langton gives a near-perfect performance of this fantastic memoir, a book reminiscent of Peter Mayle or Frances Mayes at their best. Parks shares his observations as a British author and professor transplanted to the lush environs of Italy, and the results are informative, fascinating, and often delightfully funny. Parks's adventures center around child-rearing in Italy, with all the familial love and concern magnified and sometimes lampooned but the author's affection for his adopted country shining through. Lovely people and places come alive with the author's descriptions. Langton is adept at delivering lines with just the right amount of dry, perfectly timed humor. The audiobook leaves the listener dreaming of Italy but also chuckling at the human foibles we all share when it comes to our children. L.B.F.
