AND SOMETIMES WHY

With summer stretching before him, Jack looks forward to continued activities with his longtime (since first grade) soul mate and sports mate, Chris. But the routine changes as Jack and his peers come to see Christy Moffat as a most attractive young lady. The backdrop is the country club, and Farrell provides a glimpse, often unsettling, into the workings of teenage psyches. Scott Shina is a straightforward and appealing narrator. He is unpretentious and spontaneous as Jack, ready to go with the flow of a pick-up basketball game or an invitation from a young lady. Yet, as Jack's thinking turns to the issues of his friendship or his parent's marital difficulties, Shina's narration, through tone, voice modulation, and tempo, reflects the deeper concerns and awarenesses of this young man.
