What a treasure! Margolyes's reading of these three short essays and one novella offers the listener a rare glimpse into many aspects of everyday life in China. Margolyes's decidedly British accent seems very out of place at first, but her warm, engaging tones and enthusiasm for the prose easily and effortlessly draw the listener into each story. Margolyes shines brightest reading "The Story of Qiuyu," a beautifully written story of a peasant woman seeking justice from the local political machine.
