THE BEST BUSINESS STORIES OF THE YEAR 2002

This second annual collection of columns and feature stories is a diverse survey of the world of business, industry, and technology. THE BEST BUSINESS STORIES OF THE YEAR is hosted by Eliza Foss, who guides the listener with introductions to each story. Foss and the other readers, who include Jeff Woodman and Oliver Wyman, complement each other and the stories they read. Woodman's reading of a biographical piece from THE NEW YORKER about late-night infomercial king Ron Popeil (of Ronco's "Veg-O-Matic" fame) is an especially pleasant surprise. A majority of the stories, and the best of the bunch, is given to reader Beth McDonald, who puts her cynical edge to exposés about the Ford Explorer/Firestone tire controversy, UNICEF's blockage of the delivery of baby formula to AIDS-stricken mothers in Africa, and James Stewart's NEW YORKER article indicting Michael Milkin. McDonald's reading of Wil S. Hylton's ESQUIRE story, "Who Owns This Body," is both frightening and fascinating as it explores the history of copyright law, DNA research, and gene mapping. S.E.S.
