CAUSE FOR CONCERN

An intense psychological novel is focused on a dysfunctional English family with buried secrets. There is a mesmerizing quality to the story, which inclines the listener to stay with it. Sheila Mitchell narrates with detachment and portrays the various characters expertly. We hear the egocentric self-pity in Martin Trent's whining voice, yet recognize its menace as well. Susan Trent's weakness and sense of hopelessness are deftly communicated. Even the bright, young nannies come alive.
