SCARBOROUGH FAIR

Legendary John Paul Jones, America's first naval hero, is portrayed with a bawdy charm that entices the listener back to the 1700s. Warnings of "sails to leeward, three sail to windward" authenticate the drama, as well as sea commands that ring from the mast. Hand-to-hand battle scenes, the roar of cannon, with screams and groans from sailors thrust through by swords, are not for the squeamish. Nor is Quartermaster Towers' court-martial, as 250 lashes from a leaded thong rip into his back. A staccato fast pace and the building tension of war make this audio hard to forget. G.D.W.
