LISTEN TO THE ANIMALS

"Every animal tells a story," Cordi states at the outset of these tales, "and it is our job to listen." Although this collection is loosely gathered around the theme of animals, it's much more of an occasion for Cordi to perform as storyteller than a meditation on what animals can teach us. The tale "Jack the Dog," for example, is more about Cordi's family, and how different people have different memories, than it is about an actual dog. "The Farmer and the Pig" is a tall tale of the first order. Still, though some stories are better than others, the likable Cordi captures the attention of children with his warm Southern voice and his willingness to be silly or solemn as needed. J.C.G.
