Mystery & Suspense • 6.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2002

What begins as the live coverage of a charity event by reporter Georgia Barnett turns into a mystery when the body of a man is found floating in Lake Michigan. This story takes us through rock and roll's sordid past of financial misrepresentation, broken recording contracts, manipulating managers, and tragic lives. An interesting cast of African-American characters is presented by narrator Starla Benford. But an idiosyncratic speech pattern can be a disaster to an audiobook, and this recording, unfortunately, is a prime example. Six-plus hours of hissing S's render this stylish tale impossibly annoying. P.R. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 03]
