MAYNARD MOOSE TALES

by | Read by Willy Claflin

Children Family Listening • 48 min. • Audio Program • © 1984

These stories, described as "fractured fairy tales," include "Cinderella and the Three Bears," "Handsome and Gristle," and "Rumbleshirtskin," among others. Such titles accurately suggest the liberties that Claflin takes while telling his "Mother Moose tales" in the voice of his moose puppet. You should also know that Claflin sounds like Bullwinkle with a lisp and that he makes up words like "uglified" and fools with grammar, especially pronouns ("her was so mad"). Also, the production is taped with a live audience of maybe five or six chortling, laughing, and clapping adults who appear to be his friends. Though the packaging boasts that it is an "excellent choice for car trips," not all adults will agree. That said, some young children may fall in love with all the silliness and want to hear Claflin's CD over and over in order to perfect their Maynard Moose imitations. J.C.G.
