PILL HILL QUARTET

"Pill Hill" is an area of Brookline, Massachusetts, named for the unusually large number of doctors living in the neighborhood. Once the O'Callahan clan moved in, it was never quite the same. Jay O'Callahan is a master storyteller with an intelligent, gentle, and assured voice. He immediately sets his scene and wanders on with wonderful tales of cookies, Dickens, "can ball," and high school chemistry. Each story exhibits his fine ear for characters, comic pacing, and details. Who knows what the difference between good storytelling and good comedy is, but I'd have no problem placing this CD on the same shelf with Garrison Keillor's and Bill Cosby's best.
