MONKEY HUNTING

The thoughts and actions of Chen Pan, a Chinese man who finds his destiny in Cuba, are voiced convincingly by Robertson Dean. The plot of the novel moves between centuries and continents, so Dean's authoritative voice is a steadying presence. He sensitively performs the desperate scenes of Chen Pan's struggles, although some of the traumatic moments are still difficult listening. Dean's deep voice is the guide for following the complicated and sad stories of Chen Pan's granddaughter and great-grandson as they face their limited futures in separate countries. R.F.
