Kate Reading IS the voice of Jane Austen. Her accent and tones make Jane, as a sleuth involved in her seventh mystery, come alive. While visiting the ruins of Netley Abbey with her recently bereaved young nephews, Jane is contacted by Lord Harold Trowbridge's valet and drawn into spying on Sophia Challoner, a widow who may be working against British interests in the Peninsular War. Barron's style includes numerous notes on Austen's life and times which, in audio format, are, at first, somewhat disconcerting but impart realism to the story. D.T.H.
