LAND OF FIRE

by | Read by Gordon Griffin

Fiction • 12.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2002

The exploits of Britain's SAS (Special Air Services), an elite team of soldiers comparable to the Delta Force of the U.S., are covered in a style reminiscent of W.E.B. Griffin. The author uses the Falklands War between England and Argentina to introduce us to a small unit of SAS warriors, and then follows their careers as they mature from raw recruits to capable officers. Narrator Gordon Griffin reads the story in an almost dispassionate manner, describing graphic scenes of combat in a tone virtually devoid of emotion. This is not necessarily a fault in his narration; listeners can focus on the men of the SAS unit, rather than on the military hardware or strategy that too often clouds other military techno-thrillers.
