TROUBLE AT FORT LA POINTE

by | Read by Carine Montbertrand

Children Ages 10+ • 4.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2000

Suzette Choudoir, a young woman of mostly French but some Ojibwe background, lives with her mother and father, who is a fur trapper in the Lake Superior region in the early 1730s. One summer her father wants desperately to win a trapping competition sponsored by his company. The prize would pay off his debts so that he could remain with his family instead of roaming the woods as a trapper. However, someone sabotages the competition, and Papa is arrested. Suzette sets out to find out who has caused this and set her papa free. Filled with much historical detail, as well as the suspense of the mystery, this story is ably read by Carine Montbertrand. Her voice has a juvenile quality that is quite appealing. She is adroit with French accents, and her pacing is deliberate, but never slow. M.T.F.
