Emily despises apples because she fears they may have worms in them. Suzanne Toren's proper sounding narration style is enthusiastic yet refined. She reads slowly, pleasurably drawing this story out to 18 minutes, when it could have been read, less ably, in less time. Formal and exact, Toren pronounces each word carefully. Some of the dialogue is partially differentiated, as when Toren lowers her voice for the parts of Emily's father and grandfather. Early elementary listeners will follow the pace and enjoy the story line. As with all New Readers, one side has page-turn signals, and the other does not, as is customary. A.G.H.
