"Why was the twentieth century so violent?" Professor Liulevicius pursues the answers in a sweeping summary of the period. He is surprisingly expressive in these lectures, even though he sounds as if he's 18 years old. (He's not.) He describes political movements he calls utopian at root--naziism, communism, fascism, and others--which stirred masses of people and which led to violent catastrophe.
