QUACKERY A Brief History of the Worst Ways to Cure Everything

by | Read by Hillary Huber

History • 10.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2017

The authors take listeners on a trip down memory lane to review dubious, often dangerous, medical cures of the past. Their skeptical eyes examine teething powders that contained mercury, radium toothpaste, and lobotomies, to name a few. Hillary Huber narrates from a modern perspective--cynicism and sarcasm are ever present in her voice. Her delivery is a good fit for the bleakly absurd, often macabre tone of the audiobook. The segments are brief, since there's a lot of medical quackery to cover. This audiobook is not for the fainthearted. Topics include sexual problems and medical cannibalism, and the general theme of killer cures isn't reassuring. Still, irreverent listeners will be spellbound.
