Louis's uncle gives him a tadpole from Scotland, and soon Louis finds that his pet, Alphonse, is growing in ways that defy explanation. Kevin Free's simple narration of this story is pleasant, and his boyish voice nicely sketches the growing relationship between Louis and his pet. Free captures the pair's growing dilemma as Alphonse moves from bowl to sink, to tub, to pool, and appears to enjoy Kellogg's solution to the problem, which is guaranteed to delight your children as well. Be sure to get a copy of the book so as not to miss Kellogg's terrific illustrations of the mysterious tadpole's transformation. J.C.G. © AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 03]
