P.J. Ochlan puts his considerable narrating talents to work on this complicated murder mystery. From Japanese to American characters, he covers a range of ages and accents, including those of Spanish speakers. Ochlan's dexterity captures all of them with believable accuracy as we learn about the seamier side of life in L.A. Inspector Kosuke Iwata, who is at the heart of the story, comes onto the scene as an exile, living in California as a way to escape his past. Ochlan keeps us hanging on for each clue as a routine missing person investigation turns into a complicated homicide. He creates an aural tableau of crooked cops and an honest man looking for answers, which makes it hard to stop listening. M.R. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2019]
