Often funny and touching, this novel captures the personal dramas of three generations of women: grandmother, mother, and daughter. These characters interact with one another as each wrestles with her own challenges: illness, infidelity, commitment, and Hollywood. Spunky Lotte faces old age, dependable Greta examines her marriage and mortality, and intellectual Elizabeth tries to bring her academic study of MADAME BOVARY to the big screen without becoming "Mrs. B" herself. Patricia Kalember offers a well-measured, suitably brisk reading of this capable social commentary. Her voice, alternately husky and clear, subtly brings each woman's personality to the listener.
