Narrator Lewis Arlt portrays veterinarian Bo Brock so realistically that it feels like he's speaking from Brock's clinic or a farmyard. His Texas accent adds authenticity as Brock details his childhood of loving and caring for animals. Listeners will be delighted to meet Pawpaw, whose kindness and wisdom influence the vet's entire career. Arlt's timing and tone demonstrate the joys and sorrows of pet owners, and his depictions of old, crotchety "rascals" are exceptional. It's riveting to hear the colorful stories: Brock's first patient was a cow on a cliff, and the concluding story features two elderly horses and their equally aged and distraught owner. Most fun are the hilarious suggestions and comments from onlookers, which the easygoing Brock welcomes as they observe him at work. S.G.B. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2019]
