THE CLASS OF 1846 From West Point to Appomattox: Stonewall Jackson, George McClellan and Their Brothers

by | Read by Paul Hecht

History • 21 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1994

This gem of a work is a collective biography of the West Point class of 1846. Its members came from every place and station in the Union, numbering among them Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, George B. McClellan, and George Pickett. We hear of their education as cadets, their development as officers and warriors during the war with Mexico and fighting Indians out West, and their combat against each other during the Civil War. An interesting comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of Jackson and McClellan concludes this work. Paul Hecht's performance is flawless. His deep, resonant voice is clear and effortlessly tells their story. A splendid reading worthy of this work. M.T.F. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 03/JAN 04]
