As Nev and his grandmother reminisce over the whirlwind of activities of the past four weeks, Nev questions the purpose of it all. Gran's observation that Nev has learned to appreciate home brings total agreement and satisfaction on both Nev's and the listener's part. To get there, Nev has ventured into the forest and endured the likes of deceitful hangdog Michael and witch-like Mrs. Crone as he tries to hold on to the precious coins that will pay his grandmother's rent. Nigel Lambert brings these characters artfully to life. The ease with which he crafts his voice into a conniving trickster or a high-pitched hag is admirable. The listener cannot help but chuckle at the personality Nigel infuses into the characters as one outrageous event leads to another. But all's well that ends well, and Nev's ride on the roundabout is well deserved. A.R. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 03/JAN 04]
