BEFORE AND AGAIN

Deborah Marlowe creates such distinct vocal features for each of the characters in this story that at one point the listener knows which character is in focus even when the author is trying to hide her identity. Callie Jamieson is haunted by terrifying dreams that her psychiatrist believes are stories of past members of her family, encoded in her genes. As a young child, she herself lost her mother to madness. Now a successful journalist, she is assigned to cover the death of her former lover, Wilty Hale, and she finds herself enmeshed in the wealthy Hale family's history, and legendary curse, as she tries to uncover the secret that led to Wilty's murder.
