Three distinguished professors cover the history of the United States to the Clinton era. The professors are uniformly excellent. The most flamboyant voice is that of Professor Guelzo, who presents Lectures 1 through 36, which take the listener to the Civil War. He tries in his well-modulated baritone to inject expression into his presentations. Professor Gallagher (Lectures 37 through 48) has a higher-pitched voice, but this is compensated for by his palpable enthusiasm as he covers the era of the Civil War. Last comes Professor Allitt (Lectures 49 through 84), who brings a British accent to the proceedings and who is responsible for the excellent paper course guides found in each CD case. Everything is very well arranged and presented. D.R.W. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 07]
