The scratchy and clicking sounds heard from ancient Victrola records and the static common in Old-Time Radio programs authenticate this WWII production from the Canadian Broadcasting Company, first broadcast in May 1945. Conjured conversations of ordinary citizens, soldiers, and radio announcers, as well as wartime speeches by principals such as Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, Adolf Hitler, Neville Chamberlain, and King George VI--some actual and some simulated--populate this historic and unusual docudrama. To the listener's misfortune, the severe condensation of five years of war into one hour minimizes the importance of the Russian and Pacific theaters, but the performance functions as an entertaining time machine.
