Recognizing the concept of God requires that we resist three trends in American society--pragmatism, restlessness, and narcissism. We approach enlightenment when we regard people as they really are--loving them rather than seeing them as means to an end. This requires a meditative approach that replaces use of the intellect with faith, possessiveness with charity, and a focus on pleasure with genuine relationships. This is one of the clearest audio statements of how our culture, habits, and psychological inclinations disconnect us from the communion with God that all of us can achieve. T.W.
