THE CANOPY

by | Read by Bill Myers

Fiction • 10 hrs. • Abridged • © 2003

Science and faith meet in the search for a cure for Mad Cow Disease and other encephalopathies as two doctors venture through the Peruvian jungle. The author narrates the female protagonist's chapters, and Bill Myers takes on the voice of Michael Kenway, a British physician. Both maintain the sense of their characters well enough. But mispronunciations from the author snag the listener's ear, and Myers fails to portray either a realistic or consistent British accent, to say nothing of the Spanish accent required at various points. These flaws detract from one's enjoyment of the exciting plot. Hunt and Myers offer credible portrayals of children and natives, but neither conveys the raw emotion frequently called for in the text.
