LANDFILL Notes on Gull Watching and Trash Picking in the Anthropocene

by | Read by Tim Dee

Contemporary Culture • 5.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2019

This audiobook, narrated by the author, examines the surprising relationship between trash and gulls, birds that have become the rag pickers of contemporary times. Today's world drives many birds away from us--even to extinction. But our landfills bring the gulls closer. The topic is fascinating, and the author's enthusiasm is made clear through the many hours he spent observing gulls in action. Dee's British accent suits the setting of the research, but it's disappointing that his excitement isn't reflected in his narration. Add to that the preponderance of scientific terms and species names, and you have a work that can be hard to follow at times. R.C.G. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2019]
