In this 14-lecture offering from The Modern Scholar series, Professor Shutt discusses the civilizations of the ancient Mediterranean and the modern West's indebtedness to them. His presentation is non-pedantic, informal, and enthusiastic. In a scratchy, mildly strident voice, he projects as if talking to a full lecture hall. Despite that and mouth noises that should have been edited out, he is immensely engaging.
