STAY AND FIGHT

Narrators Sophie Amoss and Bailey Carr use the hard "r's" and round vowels of Appalachian Ohio as they tell the story of Helen, a lost soul who fell in love with the wrong man and the idea of living off the land. Now Helen is all alone, and her simple, sad story as depicted by the narrators evokes empathy that lets the listener experience her situation. Neighbors Karen and Lily give Helen a chance for connection and, after the birth of their son, hope. The narrators' portrayal of this makeshift family captures the rhythm and tone of lost young people who are trying to survive.
