Winter learned at a young age that sometimes getting what you want can get ugly. Now 16, she demands to leave her indifferent legal guardians and return to her dead parents’ estate. As the only heir, she is driven to rebuild the neglected 600-acre Australian ranch. In the process she explores her first love and her hazy past, learning to accept the real circumstances surrounding her mother’s death and her own hand in it as a young child. Kate Hosking’s deep voice and fast pace make a challenging combination for listeners. Both the story and Hosking’s characterizations are worth the effort.
