Kate Forbes narrates an audio mystery that alternates between 2018 and 1787. In the midst of hunting trials held by the Hounds for Heroes charity for wounded veterans, a former Foreign Service officer gets his throat slit. Mary Minor "Harry" Harristeen investigates this death while also looking into the discovery of a murdered African-American woman wearing a necklace worth $500,000, who is found in the grave of a couple who died in 1786. Forbes aptly handles the audiobook's multiple plotlines, as well as the confusingly large number of characters, though her good performance can't make up for the various loose threads left by the author.
