After an interminable wait, narrator Kirsten Potter and author Dianne Duvall finally provide listeners with a romance for Seth. The selfless leader of the immortal guardians who protect Earth from vampires lets his guard down one night for a memorable dance with human Leah Somerson. Potter continues to give Seth the echoing, accented voice that listeners have adored for nine volumes, but she can't find her stride in the first half of the audiobook. A surprisingly stilted reading eventually settles in as the story ramps up into a thrilling battle against evil. A lot of Leah's dialogue sounds artificial. But Potter continues to imbue the series with her warm concern for every character, along with a distinct voice for each. Series fans will find much to love in Potter's signature narration.
