Narrators Paul English and Eloise Oxer bring the past and future together in this genre-bending novel, which spans centuries. Oxer's smooth pacing and use of a Scottish accent transport listeners to 1860s Edinburgh. There, Leonora feels haunted by a lustful man named Jeff, portrayed by English, who inhabits her mind and watches her everyday life using an advanced piece of technology from the year 2024. English and Oxer narrate alternately and almost without a pause between them, evoking an affinity between the characters and their time periods.
