Each chapter of this heartfelt memoir begins with an original organ riff, demonstrating the fertile spirit that shaped the Stax Records sound, created instrumental hits like "Green Onions," and attracted collaborators like Bob Dylan, Otis Redding, and Willie Nelson. Jones weathered many storms--for example, his record label compensated African-American musicians less than whites, and when his bandmate Al Jackson was murdered, there was no police investigation.
