STRANGERS AT THE GATE

Narrator Lucy Paterson brings a top-level performance to this mystery featuring murder in a small Scottish burg. Finn, a church deacon, and her husband, Paddy, a lawyer, get great jobs in the town of Simmerton. Both have secrets to hide, so when they find the bloodied bodies of their benefactors shortly after dining with them, they decide to keep quiet. But murder has a way of claiming more victims than just those who died. Things slowly unravel for the couple and their new lives. Paterson's performance is vivid without being over-the-top. She is great at the Scottish brogue and performs all characters, especially the down-to-earth Finn, admirably and with verve. A winner.
