Joolz Denby’s reading of this brutal, yet compassionate story will haunt you forever. When comedienne Jamie Gee meets Lily Carlson, her future manager, they little realize the heights and depths they will share. Jamie is known as “Lenny Bruce in a dress”; her humor is cutting but right on. When she takes up with the gorgeous Sean, everyone, except Jamie, can see he’s seriously disturbed. Denby’s delivery is inspired as she re-creates each character in a large, multicultural cast, including drag queen Mojo, whose parents go “all Islamic” when he reveals his sexuality. Jamie’s dangerous boyfriend and the loving and faithful Lily are unforgettably presented. This violent story, filled with obscenity, isn’t for everyone.
