Timothy Pabon's smooth and arresting narration offers an intimate look at the lives of several people living in Mexico City who are afflicted by cancer. His precise pacing matches that of the authors in providing elaborate details on the condition of Ramón, whose tongue needed to be cut because of cancer, and Eduardo, who has survived leukemia but has developed several phobias and extreme anxiety. Both grapple to hold onto their sanity as they maneuver life with their medical conditions. Pabon effectively unfolds the complex family dynamics and their accompanying drama. Listeners will find themselves sympathizing with the characters' plights but also amused by the audiobook's humor. A short must-listen.
