MEKONG FIRST LIGHT

by | Read by Richard Ferrone

History • 2 hrs. • Abridged • © 2004

Author Callaway recalls his service in the Mekong Delta as a Special Forces officer, platoon leader, and adviser to Thai troops from 1966-1968. He is a candid man who presents his experience of war in all its horror, cruelty, and randomness. He recalls the care he gave his platoon as they slogged it out with an experienced and cruel Viet Cong foe. He in no way misses the cruelty, but he does miss the camaraderie of men who depended on each other for their very survival. Richard Ferrone's deep voice has a deadpan quality in this production. He performs as though the events were so horrible that they are best told in a hush. M.T.F. (c) AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 05]
