Skilled Mexican-American chef and television food personality Aarón Sánchez offers a candid, articulate, and well-written memoir that he voices himself. This work concentrates on his initially restless formative years, which were strongly influenced by his mother, Zarela, also a talented chef and restaurateur, and New Orleans' iconic chef Paul Prudhomme. Sánchez's deep baritone is rhythmic, emphatic, and entertaining. Tones of sincerity and empathy in the audio performance are well employed and have a deep impact on the listener. While the encouraging story could set an excellent example for young people, Sánchez limits that applicability by peppering so much of the content with profanity. The accompanying PDF document offers many of Sánchez's best recipes. W.A.G. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2020]
