BLINDED is psychological suspense that is pure fun. The characters are well defined, and the story is light and entertaining. Dick Hill’s reading is equally skilled. While the book focuses on psychologist Alan Gregory, whom Hill portrays in a low-key, intellectual tone, it is the other characters who really make the story work. For example, scorned wife Gibbs Storey, whose looks make men melt, is far more complex. Hill gives her a soft, innocent sound. But the real “star,” and what makes Hill’s performance so good, is his depiction of police officer Sam Purdy, whose personality he nails. It’s safe to say that no listener is likely to forget Purdy’s self-deprecation, particularly his laments at having “man boobs.” D.J.S.
