When Kate Harmon's father is in a car accident, she reluctantly goes back to her hometown of Cedar Dell to take care of him and put their sixteen-year estrangement to rest. But when she runs into Max Cooper, father of her son, Ryan, he wants to date her, and her life is turned upside down.
